Root Canals

Root canal treatment has a bad reputation, but it’s mostly undeserved.

A lot has changed about dentistry in recent years, including improved technology and techniques. If you remember the procedure being a long, complicated process, you will be pleasantly surprised to learn how comfortable and stress-free modern root canal treatment can be.

But at Boca Smiles Dentistry, we go one step further. You are never “just another patient” because, as a small office, we can take the time needed to develop lasting relationships built on trust. You can take comfort knowing that the professionals caring for you are familiar people you know and can trust to put your needs first.

Many patients who have had root canal treatment with Dr. Raymond Lee describe the procedure as being no more complicated than having a tooth filled. You can trust our team to make sure that you have a positive, comfortable experience.

Why Root Canals Are Necessary

Deep within the tooth is the pulp, a soft tissue that contains the nerves and blood vessels that keep the tooth alive. But when untreated decay, traumatic injury, or a crack in the tooth occur, the pulp becomes irreversibly damaged and the tooth can become infected. When the infection reaches this part of the tooth, the only way to preserve it is with root canal therapy.

For many people, the first sign that a root canal is needed is a severe toothache that won’t go away. In fact, the pain experienced before root canal treatment is often associated with the procedure itself, which explains why so many people dread the procedure.

But the reality is that it’s the infection that causes pain, not root canal treatment. In fact, the moment Dr. Lee administers the local anesthetic, you will feel immediate relief.

What’s Involved with a Root Canal?

Root canal treatment involves removal of any infected material that exists inside the damaged tooth. This is done using state-of-the-art rotary endodontic instruments that are quiet, comfortable, and efficient, minimizing the time you need to spend in the dental chair.

When we know the infection has been removed, we fill the inner portion of your tooth and then seal it for protection. A temporary filling will be placed at first, but a root-canaled tooth will require the support of a dental crown to protect and strengthen it.

Emergency Care When You Need It Most

It is always best if we have the time to incorporate procedures like root canal therapy into a comprehensive treatment plan. But there are often instances that require us to perform a root canal on an emergency basis.

Dr. Lee knows how critical it is for you to get the relief you need as quickly as possible, so we are always available for you. You can’t plan for an emergency, so we always allow time in our day to accommodate patients who need immediate relief.

Please Contact Our Office

We do everything possible to preserve your natural teeth by keeping them healthy. If you postpone having a root canal, you put your oral health in jeopardy because there’s a good chance you will lose the tooth. We want to avoid this because a missing tooth can eventually lead to more serious oral health problems.

If you would like to learn more about stress-free root canals at our Boca Raton dental office, please call us to arrange an appointment. We promise that we will do everything we can to make your experience as comfortable and stress-free as possible.

Frequently Asked Questions

We know that many people don't like dentistry because they worry that it will be uncomfortable. But we can assure you that you have nothing to fear because, at Boca Smiles Dentistry, your comfort is our first priority!

In recent years, a lot has changed about the way we perform treatments like root canals and extractions. First, dental technology has dramatically streamlined these procedures. Dr. Raymond Lee uses state-of-the-art rotary endodontic technology that makes the process faster, increasing your comfort and minimizing the time you need to spend in the dental chair.

We also offer the benefits of comforting oral sedation. A big obstacle for many people is just getting to the dentist's office. But with oral sedation, Dr. Lee prescribes a calming medication for you to take about an hour before your appointment so that by the time you arrive at our office you will feel calm and relaxed. The effects of the medication last for several hours so you will remain comfortable throughout your procedure, but you will need a friend to drive you to and from your appointment safely.

Most importantly, though, the team at Boca Smiles Dentistry provides personalized, one-on-one care. We're a small office, and we only schedule one patient at a time so we can devote our attention to you by answering your questions and calming your worries. Our kind, friendly team is here to support and encourage you in getting the treatment you need because we know the value of good oral health. The evening of your procedure, Dr. Lee will call you to check in and see how you're doing and if you have any questions.
